Our Mission

The mission of the Czech & Slovak Language Center (School) of Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society of Astoria (BCBSA) is to educate the community about the culture, language, and history of the Czech and Slovak people.

We strive to provide a comprehensive platform to deepen understanding of our Czech and Slovak national roots and connect our young generations with the heritage of their parents and grandparents through social events, traditions and folk music activities.

We are proud to continue this mission which began in 1910 when the school was founded by the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society (est. 1892), out of the desire to teach the Czech and Slovak language and culture to children of immigrants of Czechoslovakian descendants.

Our Czech and Slovak Language Center is continuing to improve and develop connections with outside entities and fellows interested in our Slavic languages and rich culture.
