Our Mission

The mission of the Czech & Slovak Language Center (School) of Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society of Astoria (BCBSA) is to educate the community about the culture, language, and history of the Czech and Slovak people.

We strive to provide a comprehensive platform to deepen understanding of our Czech and Slovak national roots and connect our young generations with the heritage of their parents and grandparents through social events, traditions and folk music activities.

We are proud to continue this mission which began in 1910 when the school was founded by the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society (est. 1892), out of the desire to teach the Czech and Slovak language and culture to children of immigrants of Czechoslovakian descendants.

Our Czech and Slovak Language Center is continuing to improve and develop connections with outside entities and fellows interested in our Slavic languages and rich culture.

Czech and Slovak Language Center Ice Skating Fundraiser! - March 24

The Czech and Slovak Language Center with Mrs. Milada Stastny a former Czech Figure skating champion and a professional coach are hosting a PRIVATE ice skating event to bring our families and friends together.

Come to skate, laugh and eat!

beverage will be provided!

Czech Adult Language Program will start on March 30!

Those enrolled are encouraged to meet the teacher of the Czech Adult Language Program on March 16th at 1pm.

Please come to the first floor of the Bohemian Hall and look for the Czech and Slovak Language Center.

Enrollment has started for the Adult Language Program!

We are currently accepting enrollments for Adult Language Program! We offer Native speakers teachers and/or those who have native fluency in the languages they speak. Participants will be using a combinations of the best publications on the market as well as original materials created in-house.
